Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does this policy apply to all banks?

A: Yes, all banks are required to obtain customer approval before considering payment of everyday debit card purchases and ATM withdrawals that may create an overdraft to your account.

Q: Do all account holders have to provide consent for the same account?

A: No, just one owner on the account must respond. This covers all owners.

Q: Does this affect recurring payments that I have arranged to be paid through my debit card?

A: No, it does not affect recurring debit card payments. Should this type of transaction create an overdraft to your account our normal overdraft fees would apply.

Q: Beyond standard overdraft practices and linking my checking account to another account to cover overdrafts, are there other ways to avoid overdrafts?

A: The easiest way to avoid overdrafts is to keep track of your transactions and balance. You are also less likely to overdraw if you keep a cushion of extra money in the account. You can always access your account balance through SmartVoice, our 24 hour automated phone line, or through Online Banking.

Q: What happens if I choose NOT to authorize the Bank to consider payment of everyday debit card and ATM transactions which may create an overdraft?

A: If an ATM or debit card transaction exceeds the balance in your account, your transaction may be denied. There are limited circumstances when it will not be possible for the Bank to avoid paying an ATM withdrawal or everyday debit card purchase, even if there is not enough money in your account. Should this occur, the Bank may not charge you an overdraft fee, but you still must re-pay the Bank to cover the overdraft.

Q: How do I provide the Bank with my consent to pay overdrafts on everyday debit card and ATM transactions?

A: Simply complete and submit this form. If you prefer, visit any one of our branches or call us at 1-800-658-1637 to authorize us to consider payment of these transactions.
