Tennis is a lifetime sport that can be enjoyed by every age and any ability. Come watch some of the best in men’s tennis compete in Wichita at the Coleman Tennis Center on the WSU Campus. The 2016 qualifying rounds will begin July 1st and the Main Draw will be on July 4th. This Open will also include a Kid’s Day where over three hundred youth will have the chance to drill and play, meet the professional players, and learn the basics of the game. Convoy of Hope was founded in 1994 and since then more than 80 million people have been served throughout the world by this organization. A Convoy of Hope Community Event is a united act of compassion that touches families in desperate need. Guests are provided with groceries, medical and dental screenings, haircuts, lunch, music, and so much more. Convoy of Hope - Wichita will expand to two sites this year to meet the community’s growing needs with an estimated 14,000 Guests of Honor, 4,000 more attendees than last year. For the third consecutive year Kansas Council of Residential Specialists (CRS) has partnered with Numana, an international hunger relief organization. Since Numana was formed in 2008, it has packed 37 million meals with the help of 197,000 volunteers all over the United States. At the August 27th event, 300 volunteers will be packing 50,000 meals in a goal time of two hours. To learn more about this event visit www.numanainc.com.

Organized by ICT S.O.S., the Race 4 Freedom is a 5K run/walk benefiting Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center, a program which provides advocacy services to survivors of all sexual violence, including trafficking. The race will kick off from Carpenter Place and be a flat, fast course through the Indian Hills area. On October 20-29, Tanganyika Wildlife Park will host its family-friendly Halloween event, Pumpkins in the Park. This community centered event provides a safe place for children to enjoy fun and festive Halloween activities such as a pumpkin painting contest, a pumpkin patch, “haunted” haystack rides, scare zones, and much more. All proceeds support the Tanganyika Winter Fund which helps provide for year-round care of the animals.

The Murder Mystery Dinner is a fun-filled night with an interactive show and dinner, as well as a silent and live auction. Donations from this event fund the meal costs for the Lord’s Diner mobile food truck in Northeast Wichita that five-days-a-week serves 450-500 individuals including many children and senior citizens. Special Olympics provides year round athletic and sports training for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. These activities give them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship. Special Olympics Kansas will be hosting the Fall Sports Classic which includes two days of volleyball and bowling competitions in Shawnee, Kansas.
