Retired Wichita Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Alicia Thompson has been elected to serve on the Fidelity Bank, N.A. Board of Directors. Dr. Thompson is the twelfth member of the board, which provides oversight to our $3.1 billion dollar bank with locations across Kansas and Oklahoma.

“I have long admired Dr. Thompson’s ability to build consensus, drive positive change and motivate people to do their best work,” said Clark Bastian, chairman of the Fidelity Bank Board of Directors. “Our fourth generation, family-owned bank will benefit from her expertise in the areas of budgetary management, operational improvements, cultivating a mission-driven culture and advancing initiatives that promote equity and inclusion.”

A Champion of Education

Dr. Thompson’s education career with USD 259 spanned more than three decades, during which she moved from the classroom into a series of administrative roles with increasing spheres of responsibility. In 2017, Dr. Thompson became superintendent, making her the leader of the largest school district in Kansas and the second largest employer in South Central Kansas. She held this position until her retirement in 2023.

Dr. Thompson holds degrees from Langston University, Newman University and Wichita State University. She is no stranger to the commitment of board service having served for the Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce, Greater Wichita YMCA, Goodwill Industries of Kansas, the WSU Shocker Athletic Scholarship Organization (SASO), WSU Tech and Kansas Newman University.

“Fidelity Bank has time and again exhibited a sincere commitment to improving the communities they serve, including right here in Wichita,” said Dr. Thompson. “I experienced their culture of generosity and volunteerism while at USD 259 , seeing their employees working alongside students in the classroom and empowering teachers with financial and emotional support. That culture of service is evident in their business practices, and has certainly contributed to their decades of growth. I’m excited to be part of the Fidelity family and contribute to their future success.”

Dr. Thompson officially joined the Fidelity Bank Board of Directors on December 20, 2023.
